Alberta is part of the north west portion of the North American Great plains, it was formerly grasslands on the east and south that is now farm land in small grain cereal production. The livestock industry is large with beef cattle the main activity. It has mountains on the west and boreal forest in the north. Oil patch activity is significant and one of the drivers of the economy.
